Clearing Clutter Is A Journey
"Ain't about how fast I get there.
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side.
It's the climb."
Miley Cyrus
When you are doing anything worthwhile in your life, such as creating a
successful business, getting (and staying!) in shape, raising healthy,
happy kids, or creating space by clearing out clutter, it's not about a
single event.
In fact, in the words of Miley Cyrus, it's about the climb.
You've heard it before...life is about the journey.
Have you asked yourself what that truly means?
Yes, it's fabulous to accomplish what we want.
But it's just as fabulous to fully enjoy and savor each moment along the way.
Clearing out clutter is not a project. It is not a one-time task.
Sooooo many people, when they start clearing out their clutter, have extremely high expectations of themselves.
"I should be able to clear everything out this weekend!"
"Why is there still stuff to DO?"
"I should be making visible progress every single day."
"You mean there's still MORE?!?"
"I should just buckle down and finish all of this!"
With expectations like that, whatever you get done will likely never feel like enough.
You'll probably find that you have trouble feeling good about the progress you have made.
And you'll actually add stress to your life, simply by having expectations of yourself that you can never meet.
First of all, you're never "done" clearing clutter and creating
space in your life, just like you're never "done" brushing your teeth.
You're still going to brush your teeth tomorrow, and the next day, and
the day after that, right?
You don't get all bent out of shape about the fact that you'll need to brush your teeth again tomorrow, too, do you?
Or get completely overwhelmed by the thousands of times you'll be
brushing your teeth in the next 20, 30, or 40 years? I would imagine
you simply brush your teeth, enjoy the feeling of having clean teeth
and fresh breath in that moment, and go about your day.
Creating space in your life is the same thing.
As you gently clear out the layers of your past, the layers of
what no longer serves you, the layers of what is taking up so much room
in your life, and the layers of what drains your energy, just know that
the process will continue.
You will change and grow. What inspires and energizes you
today will change, either next week or next month or next
year...creating more to let go.
And you'll still be taking care of your home, your papers, your office,
your closet, and everywhere else in your environment tomorrow, and the
next day, and the day after that, too.
And will clearing out clutter get easier? Will letting go get easier?
YES!
Will you start seeing more and more results? Will creating space become part of your daily routine?
Absolutely!
It's important to remember that, in addition to the act of
clearing out the stuff you no longer want, clearing clutter is also
about creating new habits that support you in living the life YOU want
to live.
It's about creating time and space in your life so you can focus on what you most love today, so that you can fully live TODAY.
What if you focused on the open space you are creating today, and truly enjoyed it?
And what if you relished in the new habits you are creating, step by step, to create a life of ease and being fully present?
What if you enjoyed the journey?
