Save The Memory, Not The Item
"Leftovers in their less visible form are called memories,
stored in the refrigerator of the mind
and the cupboard of the heart."
Thomas Fuller
Last week's article was titled "We See Clutter As WE Are"...and sparked quite a number of great comments!
Here's an excerpt from that article: "...the wonderful memories,
emotions, and feelings are inside of the person holding those
memories...and will still exist, with or without the item you're
getting rid of. None of the love will go away if you choose to get rid
of the item, because the love has nothing to do with the item itself
anyway.
One of my favorite ideas on keeping the memory alive (without keeping
the stuff) came from a reader named Beth O., and here's what she wrote:
Hi, Sue! I was just reading
the latest newsletter, and I totally relate. I've found it hard to get
rid of these things, too. But I just had a great idea!
This might be a good way to use digital scrap booking. What
about taking a good digital photo of the item and creating a "page"
with the photo & a discussion of why the item was so special? Then
the item can finally be removed, but the recovered pack rat can still
view it on occasion.
I think I've got a few things left that I can do this with ~ hmmmm......
Enjoy your week,
Beth O.
What a great way
to preserve the cherished memory...while creating more space in your
life for new memories! I especially love the part about writing why the
item was so special!
Thanks for sharing your great idea, Beth!
