Clearing Clutter As Self-Care
"What if your most sacred mission each day
were to take impeccable care of yourself?"
Jennifer Louden
Most people look at clearing out clutter and organizing their stuff as
an obligation or an unpleasant project...something to do before they
get on to the 'good stuff' in their life.
Kind of like eating all your peas before you got dessert as a kid.
I look at clearing clutter very differently.
I believe that clearing out the things that are draining your energy
and making you feel stressed and overwhelmed - especially when you
don't even realize they are affecting you - is one of the highest forms
of self-care.
You are in control of what you surround yourself with. You make those decisions.
And your home is meant to be a haven from the rest of the world, your sanctuary.
I love Victoria Moran's definition of home. She calls it our 'shelter for the spirit.'
When you make careful, deliberate choices about what you keep in your
home (and what you get rid of), you can create a home that feeds your
soul.
So to me, the process of going through closets, drawers, and
garages is much more than a practical exercise in cleaning things up.
It's also an act of self-care, of getting to know what you love and use
right now.
