Rearrange Your Furniture
to Gain New Perspective

"Rearranging furniture, adding some candles,
or making even small tweaks can really make the difference.
"

Anthea Turner

Rearranging furniture can definitely make the room look better.

But what if the impact goes even deeper than that?

What if simply rearranging your furniture gives you the opportunity to experience your life in an entirely new way?

When I was a kid, I was constantly rearranging the furniture in almost every room in our house.

I think it drove my sister crazy. (Because she told me it did.)

But I wasn't rearranging the rooms to bother anyone.

I was rearranging the furniture because it felt like a fresh start every time. I got to feel differently in that room with each new arrangement. The truth is, I was experimenting with how I got to feel.

I also noticed that after I had changed the room, I experienced a sense of being fully present in that room for awhile as well. I actually noticed the furniture. I noticed the pictures on the walls. I was very aware of where I was sitting and what I saw.

This feeling of newness is very similar to what we love about traveling, right?

We leave home so we can experience being fully present in the moment and really NOTICE what's going on around us. We especially experience this phenomenon when we travel to a country that's very different from our own...so we notice the food, the language, the stores, the people. We are not on auto-pilot.

And when you are fully present and aware of what's new and different around you, you are also able to gain a new perspective on your own life. It's as if you are looking at your own life with new eyes, because you are seeing different things through those eyes.

You can enjoy that feeling of having a new perspective right where you live, too.

And all it takes is rearranging something that you have become used to experiencing a certain way, like your furniture, to give you this feeling of newness.

Consider a part of your life that has started to feel a bit...well...stale.

Maybe it's your work. If so, what can you rearrange in your office today? Or how could you rearrange your schedule, just a bit, to give you a fresh perspective and take you out of the rut you may have been in?

Or maybe it's the time you spend with your family. What about rearranging your family room furniture and planning something unexpected and different to do together in the room?

When your life starts feeling like it's on auto-pilot and the newness has worn off, consider rearranging one small aspect of your environment to give yourself the chance to look at your life with new eyes.

And in that moment you'll be back, fully present, in your own life again.
