When You Feel Confused, Go Within
"Within you there
is a stillness and a sanctuary
to which you can retreat at any time
and be yourself."
Hermann Hesse

I don't know about you, but when I'm feeling confused or stuck about
something in my life, I am very tempted to go into 'figure it out'
mode.
I have that mode down to a science.
I get out my clipboard with lots of paper.
I take out my favorite pens.
I write long lists, with pros and cons. I create plans. I try to make the answer come.
Or I go searching outside of myself for the answer. It's really temping to believe that some other expert will have my answer.
And it feels very productive to be doing something. Anything!
(Because I don't feel very comfortable in that 'not knowing' stage.)
But here is what I have discovered.
When I'm feeling stuck about something, that is NOT the time to
try to figure it out. If the answer is supposed to be there, it's
actually pretty easy to find.
Any time I catch myself trying to figure something out, that's my big red flag that it's time for me to stop and go within.
By go within, I mean to reconnect with my higher guidance.
For me, that means getting still. Being quiet. Doing nothing.
Meditating. Praying. Or playing. Doing something wonderful to take good
care of myself.
And it also means letting go of trying to find the answer. (Honestly, that's the hardest part for me.)
And invariably, whatever answer I most need, shows up on its
own. (I LOVE that part.) I'll either have an inspiration at a
completely unexpected moment, or someone will call with exactly what I
need, or something will fall into my lap at the perfect time.
For me, working hard to try to figure something out is always,
always, always clutter in my life. And amazingly, all that hard work
never goes anywhere...it never creates the answer I was looking for
anyway!
So the next time you feel confused or stuck, rather than
trying to force an answer, consider reconnecting with yourself. Find
your own peace. Connect with your higher guidance.
Spend some quiet time in nature. Take a long walk, or sit at a picnic bench under a lovely shaded tree.
Allow the answer to come to you on its own, in its own time.
Because it will.
