Life is too Short to Wear
an Uncomfortable Bra

"The quality of your life
while being in good-fitting underwear
versus being in bad-fitting underwear
is like driving through Friday traffic
as a passenger in a fully-equipped shimmering new limousine
versus being the driver of a sputtering mud-caked,
banged up itty bitty tinny car in need of an overhaul
with a gas gauge on empty."

One of the themes that shows up whenever I take a group of women through their clothes closet is the shape of their underwear.

It's amazing how often we settle.

We settle for bras that pinch and poke and itch. Or bras that are too tight or too loose or the wrong cut for our figure. We keep bras that are so worn out, they are ready to disintegrate into dust.

Or we haven't been fitted for a bra since the 9th grade (I am here to tell you that your bra size has probably changed since then).

Life is too short to settle for bras that are uncomfortable. Or that don't fit. That don't flatter. Or that don't feel like wearing your favorite pajamas.

It is so worth it to take the time to find the bras that really work for you, even if you don't think you possibly have the time or the energy or the interest in shopping.

Follow these simple steps to find bras you love:

1. Call around to your favorite department store (one that carries a variety of different brands) to see if they offer bra fittings and when. Schedule an appointment if possible.

2. Set aside a few hours so you can go bra shopping by yourself.

3. Once at the store, get yourself fitted correctly. Ask any questions you may have.

4. Then try on every brand that appeals to you, in your correct size. Take the time to explore the different cuts and shapes of bras. There are a LOT of different kinds of bras: push-up bras, demi-cup, full coverage bras, wireless, padded, embroidered, t-shirt bras, seamless, soft cup, front or back closure...it's amazing all the "features" you can choose from.

Kind of like buying a car. :)

5. And then choose the kind of bras that you really love. You will likely find a brand or two that you really like (I have discovered after trying on dozens of brands that Maidenform designs the bras that my body likes best).

Write down the brand, size, and style you like.

6. And then start gently replacing your current not-quite-right bras with bras that you love. Once you know what bras you like, you can often find them on amazing sales, too!

The other benefit of putting on a bra you love in the morning is that you can completely forget about it for the rest of the day. :)

Have fun bra-shopping!
