Your Clothes Closet is Like a Diary

"Sentimental clothing lurks in many closets.
Memories of triumphs, disappointments, and hopes
are embedded in T-shirts from special events,
outdated dresses, and ya-ya getups.
They sit and stagnate like forgotten yearbooks
and tarnished sports trophies.
"

Katherine Gibson

If I came over and checked out your clothes closet, what would I see?

My guess is, here is what I would discover:

  • clothes you used to love at one time
  • clothes that used to fit
  • clothes you wanted to fit, but never did
  • clothes that don't flatter your body or your coloring
  • clothes that you hope to wear when you finally lose that last 10 pounds (yes, I know you've been working on that for a couple of years)
  • clothes you bought just because they were on sale
  • clothes that still have the price tags on them
  • clothes that used to be part of an outfit (that no longer go with anything in your closet)
  • clothes a salesperson or your friends convinced you were 'perfect for you'
  • clothes that no longer fit the life you are currently living
  • clothes that do not represent the woman you are today
  • clothes that do not make you happy and delighted
  • clothes you got as a gift
  • clothes in the wrong colors for you, that you never feel great wearing

Maybe I'd also find your wedding dress. Your cheer leading uniform from high school? The turkey pan that doesn't fit in the kitchen cupboard (but you only need it on Thanksgiving anyway, right?)

Your clothes closet can be like a diary of your life.

But how about living the life you have right now?

What would it be like having only the clothes that fit your current body, your current interests, and your current personality in there?

And even better, what if the only clothes hanging in your closet made you smile down to your toes?

Wouldn't that feel delicious?
