Garage Organizing:
Brooms, Snow Shovels, and Maintenance
Supplies
When garage organizing, brooms and shovels and other tall items can
easily become a tangled mess if you start simply leaning them up
against the wall. And cleaning and maintenance supplies benefit from
having a designated space as well.
For Tall Items
To organize brooms and other tall items, one simple and highly
effective way to keep
them neat and tidy is
to purchase or build a wall rack with hooks or spaces to hang each
item. Once you have hung the rack, try out several configurations of
how you'll hang the items to determine the best fit, and then label
each hook if necessary.
Another great option is using a free-standing upright organizer
designed to hold rakes, shovels, floor squeegees, long arms for washing
windows or painting, and related tools.
You can hang dustbins on nearby hooks or on the wall rack as
well, and keep them within easy reach.
For Cleaning Supplies
Store
buckets and cleaning supplies on shelves either above or near your
brooms and shovels area...to keep organizing simple and effective.
And
as you're organizing your maintenance supplies, go through them and see
which ones you actually use. You don't actually need seven kinds of
cleansers, as much as the commercials might try to convince you
otherwise. Getting rid of things you aren't using is one of the easiest
ways to keep your home and garage from getting overwhelming; the less
stuff you have, the less time, energy, and organizing bins it
takes to organize it.
I especially like to store cleaning
supplies in those plastic caddies with handles, so you can take
everything with you all at once. The caddy keeps everything in its
place, so you can grab what you need easily.
Paper towels,
garbage bags, and other paper or plastic products can be stored in
waterproof bins or enclosed shelving, cabinets, or cupboards.
When garage organizing, make sure to keep chemicals, such as
pesticides, car fluids, cleaners, and ice melt well out of the reach of
children and pets.
