Garage Storage Shelves and Racks
Every garage needs good, strong, sturdy garage storage shelves to keep
your stuff organized and easily accessible.
But with so many kinds of shelving available, how do you choose?
Garage storage shelves come in a variety of materials, including metal,
wire rack, wood, and plastic. In addition, here are some things to consider:
Wall-Mounted vs. Free-Standing Shelves
The benefit of wall-mounted shelves is that they often don't take up
any floor space, so if you have a small area or need to use your floor
space for other uses, wall-mounted shelves are a good option. However,
wall-mounted shelves often aren't as large and may not be able to hold
as many items as a free-standing shelf.
Free-standing shelves take up more floor space, so if you're a bit
cramped, you might not want to choose this style. However, they also
tend to be able to hold more, so if you need more storage space, this
might be your best choice.
Adjustable vs. Non-Adjustable Shelves
You can build or purchase shelves to be either adjustable or
non-adjustable, and it really depends on how you're going to use them.
Non-adjustable shelving is less expensive to buy or make (and
simpler); however, adjustable shelving is nice because you can space
the shelves with the exact distance you need from each other, so you're
not wasting extra space above the items you are storing.
Garage Storage Racks
If you need extra storage, a garage storage rack might be just the
ticket.
And racks come in all shapes and sizes, to store any kind of specialty
gear you have.
You
can get ceiling-mounted and wall-mounted storage racks that will store
everything from bicycles to kayaks, canoes to camping gear, and
surfboards to fishing rods and reels.
You can also use racks to
hold items such as bins that you are archiving (things you don't need
often but need to keep), and other large or bulky items like luggage or
holiday decorations.
One of the benefits of using a
ceiling-mounted garage storage rack is to help you maximize that
little-used space at the top of your garage (or other area of your
home). It's literally like adding a mini-attic right in your garage.
