Laundry Room Ideas:
Where You'll LOVE Doing Laundry!

Laundry room ideas All it takes are a few simple laundry room ideas that anyone can handle to transform a tired, uninspiring space into a room that blows you away (and wouldn't you LOVE to do laundry in a room like that?)

The Department of Energy estimates that you'll do an average of 400 loads of laundry this year. For most people, that comes out to five or more hours per week spent doing laundry!

And if your space is uninviting, unorganized, or drab, you're missing the opportunity to actually enjoy this household chore.

And you really CAN create a well-designed room or area you love to do laundry in.

Here are some of the simplest, most effective laundry room ideas:

1.  Clear out the clutter and organize the space

If your laundry room has become a catch-all for the miscellaneous items that don't have a 'home,' do your best to get that clutter out of your laundry room. The more the room is designed to support washing and drying clothes, ironing, and folding (and not all that other stuff), the more you will enjoy it.

Some simple laundry room organization tips can make a huge difference as well.

2.  Clean out the lint and dust

For a room where you clean your clothes, most laundry rooms are surprisingly not all that clean.

Every laundry room has those lint dust bunnies that could easily take over the household if you let them...but you don't need to. Keeping the laundry room clean and tidy doesn't need to take long, and will make the entire room look and feel so much better.

Take 30 seconds to wipe off the washer and dryer with a towel right before you toss the towel into the wash, and your appliances will stay cleaner, longer. If you spill laundry detergent or bleach, wipe it up right away (nothing makes more cleaning work than letting laundry soap meld to the washer lid).

And emptying out the lint trap after every dryer cycle will help reduce the lint in the room as well.

When you sweep or vacuum the rest of your house, take an additional few minutes to do the laundry room, too.

3.  Repair and upgrade

Most laundry rooms are neglected when it comes to repairs, upgrades, and decorating...but don't make that mistake. A few simple laundry room ideas help you upgrade the room from dingy to delightful.

If the laundry room walls are scuffed, dingy, or dark, an easy remedy is to paint them a couple of coats of paint in a light, airy color. Nothing, and I mean nothing, has the power to change a room faster than a fresh coat of paint.

If you have exposed wiring, pipes, or other not-so-pretty functional apparatus, why don't you consider finishing off the room? It doesn't need to cost much, and you will truly love the difference a finished laundry room makes.

4.  Add ample and stylish lighting

A dark and dingy laundry room doesn't inspire freshness, does it?

A very easy fix is to simply add more lighting to the room, which can make a dramatic difference in the space.

Use higher wattage bulbs, update the lighting fixtures, or even add a window if possible (and keep it sparkling clean...you will not believe the difference a clean window makes in creating a cheerful ambiance!)

5.  Finishing touches

The finished touches can make or break your laundry room...and they're so easy!

Adding cabinets above the washer and dryer can help you neatly organize and store laundry detergent, bleach, and any other laundry products behind closed doors.

Wire shelving adds extra storage space, and those special hanging gadgets for your iron and ironing board keep everything neat and tidy.

If you keep your laundry in the room during the week, why not add a laundry organizer as well, so as you add your dirty clothes when you're through with them, you can sort them at the same time?

Laundry room ideas can be very simple (or as elaborate as you like!)...and easily transform what is often the most uninspiring room of the house into a room you actually enjoy doing laundry in!
