Organize The Garage:
Miscellaneous "Stuff"

As you organize the garage, there are often lots of miscellaneous items that don't seem to belong anywhere in particular.

Some items that might fall in this category include:

  • suitcases and luggage
  • hammock
  • boxes of files or papers
  • kids' toys
  • furniture you're no longer using
  • old lamps, pictures, and other decorating items
  • unused electronics, TVs, and other equipment

My recommendation is to always start by taking a good look at what you've got to see what you can get rid of. Organizing is so much easier when there is less to organize!

The garage can easily become a dumping ground for lots of things that you aren't quite sure what to do with...and pretty soon, you can feel overwhelmed by all the stuff that has accumulated.

Once you have gotten rid of as much of this miscellaneous stuff as possible, it's always helpful to group similar items together for storage. For example, store all of your suitcases and luggage items together so you can easily see what you have and access what you need when you are ready to plan for your next trip.

When you organize the garage, large plastic tubs with lids are great for keeping small, loose items neatly contained and together. Designate one bin per category of items (like all small toy cars go in one bin, decorating items in another, and so on) rather than mixing categories...even if you have some extra room at the top of a bin.

For luggage, hammocks, and other larger items, consider hanging them from hooks from the ceiling or use wall hooks to keep them off the ground and easy to reach.
