Organizing Shoes, Boots, and Other Footwear
In Step 4 of clearing out your closet, we'll look at organizing shoes,
boots, and other footwear.
First, have a clear area in your bedroom to give you some room for this
process. You might want to have a full-length mirror on hand as well;
you'll be trying on all of your shoes and other footwear!
Set a timer for 15 minutes – give yourself a short amount of time to do
Gather all of your shoes, sandals, boots, and other footwear from all
the places you keep them, and put them all together in the middle of
your bedroom floor. Organizing your footwear is about getting to know what
you love, what you don't love, and beautifully organizing what you
decide to keep.
Look at each pair of shoes.
Try them on. For each pair, ask yourself:
- Do you LOVE this pair of shoes?
- Do you wear them? Regularly?
- Do they hurt to walk in? You deserve shoes that are not
only beautiful, but that your feet love.
- Do you love how they look on you?
- Are they in good shape?
- Do you have a lot of duplicates? For example, are you
surprised to find that you own five pairs of black heels (but don't
often wear them?)
- Do they need repairs, such as new heels or polishing?
- Are they keepers?
If you're like most people, you will find, while decluttering and
organizing shoes, that many of the shoes in your collection get worn
very rarely, if ever...and that you have a few beloved pairs of shoes
that you wear day in and day out.
If you want to really get to know yourself, ask yourself why you love
each of your favorite, often-worn shoes. What is it you love about each

or repair items, write them on your “What I Need” list.
When you have finished with your shoes, put the ones you’re keeping
away. Bring the ones you’re getting rid of out of your bedroom and put
them in your car to take them to your favorite charity. You want to
keep your bedroom as cleared out
as you can while you’re doing this.
And then when you're finished with Step 4 of organizing shoes, move
on to Step
