Pantry Organizer
Zone 5: The Food Storage Zone
Pantry organizer: the fifth of the five main
kitchen zones is the food storage zone and is made up of your
refrigerator and pantry area (or kitchen cabinets if you don't have a
separate pantry).
Best Location For Your Food Storage Zone:
You have two main areas
for food storage in your organized kitchen:
- refrigerator
- pantry
(or, if you don't have a pantry, kitchen cabinets located either near
the refrigerator or the food preparation area to make it convenient to
prepare meals)
Items You'll Want Located In or Near Your Food Storage Zone:
In your refrigerator:
- perishable food items
- frozen foods
In your pantry:
- canned goods
- cereals
- rice and beans
- soups
- dry goods
- bottled goods
- boxed goods
- paper products
- plastic storage containers
- foils
- plastic wraps
- plastic ziplock bags
Where to Store These Items:
It is much easier to
prepare and store foods when you can easily get at what you've got.
In your pantry, put similar items together: canned vegetables, canned
fruit, soups, cereals, pasta, rice and beans, and so on.
When
you are the pantry organizer in your household, one trick that will
instantly make your
pantry look neat and tidy is to use a retail merchandising tool called
'facing.' When you face your pantry, you simply turn all the faces of
the canned and boxed goods facing forward and line them up in neat rows
(just like you would see in your favorite grocery store).
